Exposed
to music from infancy, Rob always knew music was his destiny.
His father introduced him to the psychedelic rock of the sixties
and progressive fusion of the seventies throughout his childhood,
and his grandfather paid the bills as a jazz drummer decades
earlier.
At eight he started studying the violin, and became enraptured
with classical music. By twelve he was playing guitar, which
spoke to him in a much different way; he found that while
he enjoyed playing the music of classical composers on violin
very much, on guitar he much preferred to compose his own.
Although he enjoyed middle school and high school classes
enough, he spent the vast majority of his time learning everything
he could about violin and guitar, and by 11th and 12th grade
was cutting class to play bach duets and such with his orchestra
teacher. This led to studying both classical and jazz harmony
and composition in college, where he simply couldn't get enough
music theory.
Nowadays he can be found listening to anything from jazz
to electronica, classical to rock, and even show tunes. His
biggest current influences are Pat Metheny, Garaj Majal, Vital
Information, Jimmy Herring, Medeski Martin & Wood, John
Scofield, Yes, Danny Elfman, Tchaikovsky, Liszt, Schubert
and Mendelssohn.
