Zac
was born and spent his formative years in Montclair, NJ. Being
a Jersey boy, he was hooked on Bruce Springsteen from birth
(he adds: "I think it's very telling that my first favorite
song ["Jungleland" from Born to Run] clocks in at over nine
minutes."), he has been playing music since his parents got
him piano lessons when he was 4 years old.
He abandoned formal training when he was 11,
due to a lack of interest in playing music that other people
wanted him to play. Shortly thereafter he began to compose
his own music, spending hours of his day in the music room
of Glenfield Middle School, at an Ensoniq EPS synthesizer
and a Mac SE computer, sequencing tracks when he should have
been in math class. To this day, he doesn't know why his teachers
let him get away with it, but they did. and he thinks that's
pretty darn spiffy.
He has spent the ensuing years listening to
everything from classical to rock, jazz to electronica, showtunes
to funk, Americana to Afrobeat - and much of what lies in
between. He strives for equal diversity in his writing: "If
you can smack a label on it - I'm doing something wrong. It's
all music to me, and I love music more than anything else."
In his spare time, Zac enjoys staring at clouds
and shiny things, and writing about himself in the third person.
